Product Types
Cartxis supports four product types, each tailored to a different kind of merchandise:
Simple Product
A standard physical product with a fixed price and inventory. Examples: a bag of flour, a bottle of shampoo, a pack of batteries.
- Has its own SKU and stock quantity
- Requires shipping
- Most common product type
Configurable Product (Variants)
A product with user-selectable variation options such as size, color, or material. The parent configurable product groups multiple simple product variants.
- Customers choose options (e.g., size: S/M/L, color: Red/Blue) before adding to cart
- Each variant combination can have its own SKU, price, and stock level
- Requires attributes marked as "Use for Product Variants" in the Attributes section
- The parent product itself is not purchasable — a specific variant must be selected
Virtual Product (No Shipping)
A non-physical product that does not require shipping. Examples: service appointments, consulting hours, memberships, gift cards.
- No weight or shipping calculations
- Fulfilled digitally or via service delivery
- Inventory tracking is optional
Downloadable Product (Digital)
A digital product that customers download after purchase. Examples: e-books, software licenses, music files, design templates.
- Downloadable files are attached to the product
- Customers receive download links after successful payment
- No shipping required
- Download limits and expiration can be configured
